

Mrs. Leiter was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on January 26, 1930. She was preceded in death by her parents Roscoe J. Saville and Marguerite Ray Saville and her son Lawrence “Larry” Leiter. She graduated from Stevens Junior College, Columbia, MO in 1949 and from the University of Missouri in 1951 with a degree in Home Economics.
She married Gordon Leiter on July 25, 1952. They had three children together. In addition to Larry there are two daughters Virginia Leiter (Willis Noble) of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada and Kathy Norman (David) of Shelby, NC. Also surviving are her daughter-in-law Ruth Anna Leiter of Lexington, GA, 14 grandchildren and 8 greatgrandchildren. When the first child was born, she became a full time mother so she could take care of her children and get then to all their activities. While her family came first, she found time for her church and her music interests. She sang many years in the church choir and enjoyed singing with the Three Rivers Singers. In addition to singing, she was active in the Rome Music Lovers’ Club where she served as president in addition to being treasurer for 17 years. She was treasurer for almost every organization she was involved in. She was treasurer for the State Federation of Music Clubs for 15 years.
She was active in the United Methodist Women in her church and participated in a small discussion class for Sunday School. She was active in a local chapter of P.E.O. and was a Past State President. She also served a term on the National Finance Committee. She was active in AAUW having served as Branch President and Treasurer.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in her memory to First United Methodist Church, 202 East 3rd Ave., Rome, GA 30161 or to a charity of your choice.
A memorial service was held on Sunday afternoon, November 13, 2016, at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with visitation in the sanctuary after the service.
