
Mr. Johnson was born in Bremen, Ga. February 13, 1917, son of the late Rosco Ely Johnson and Elder Rae White Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife Beula May Salmon Johnson to whom he was married for 59 years, two brother’s Guy Johnson and C.W. Johnson, and one sister Doris Bell.
Mr. Johnson grew up in Rome, GA. In the 1930's he was one of the top 10 feather weight boxing champions of the world. He proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII. He was the owner and operator of the Jimmie Johnson Service Station on Shorter Ave. for 30 years, and was a Mason for 60 years at the Marietta Lodge.
Survivors include one son Jimmie Johnson, Jr. and his wife Nellie F. of Rome, grandchildren; Sammie Johnson and his wife Melissa, Ms. Pam Smith, Tammie Carver and her husband Steve, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A private graveside service will be conducted Sunday February 5, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens with Rev. Glenn Clonts officiating. The family will receive friends at Jimmie Johnson, Jr.’s residence 103 Charlton St. Rome Saturday February 4, during day time hours. A presenting of the flag will be provide by the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 American Legion Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
