

Mr. Turner was born in Rome on October 18, 1929, son of the late R. E. Turner and Gladys Pierce Turner. James was the brother of the late R. E. Turner, Jr. and John Franklin Turner of Hawkinsville, Georgia.
Mr. Turner was a graduate of Rome High School and Georgia State University. He was married to the late LaVerne Garrison Turner for 59 years. Mr. Turner was the founder of Turner Food Systems which included Pic O’ Deli Restaurants and Gravy Boat of Rome.
Survivors include his daughters, Debbie White of Rome, Teri Burdette and her husband, John of Powder Springs and a son, James P. Turner, Jr. and his wife, Elaine of Rome. Also surviving are his loving grandchildren, Jeff Burdette of Suwanee, Laura Burdette of Vinings, Seth White and his wife, Marci of Smyrna, Melissa White and Rebecca Turner of Rome, and Lindsey Corpening and her husband, Reggie of Florida. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Turner were held on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home. The family received friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday prior to the service. Grandsons, Jeff Burdette and Seth White, son-in-law, John Burdette, and nephews, Jeff and Wright Turner will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
