
She was born in Waycross, Georgia on October 2, 1924 to the former Olive Parker Reavis and Dr. William Farrell Reavis, Sr. She is preceded in death by her husband Mark Anthony Cooper, Jr. (D. 8-12-90) and her oldest son Mark Anthony Cooper III (D. 3-7-75). She is also preceded by her siblings: Sue Reavis Pugh of Atlanta, GA; Ann Reavis Stamps of Macon, GA; and Virginia Willingham of Rome, GA; and Dr. William Farrell Reavis Jr. of Augusta, GA.
Mrs. Cooper graduated from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, and in addition to raising six children, served on numerous civic and charitable boards throughout her life. She was an active member of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rome and loved tennis, golf, boating, reading, bridge and “all forms of wild flora and fauna.” Mrs. Cooper cherished her time on St. George Island and at Lake Blue Ridge. In her lifetime, she was instrumental in the establishment of the Blacks Bluff Preserve through the Nature Conservancy, and she, along with her husband, helped found Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church in Trion, Georgia.
She is survived by her five children Judith Cooper Camak (Sp. Banks) Johnson City, TN ; Olivia Reavis Cooper (Becky) Mt. Pleasant, SC; William Reavis Cooper (Sp. Melanie) St. Louis, MO; Jane Elizabeth Tate (Sp. Drew) Rome, GA; John Paul Cooper Rome, GA. Her eight grandchildren are Banks Camak III, Cooper Camak (Sp. Brittany), William Young, Stephen Laseter (Sp. Heather); Justin Laseter; Timothy Pape Jr., Nash Cooper and Haley Cooper. She has 2 great-grandchildren: Hinson and Hayes Camak. Jane dearly loved her extended family including her nieces and nephews Nan and Scott Henson; Sue Upchurch, Osgood Willingham, Jenks Wallace, Roe and Mike Stamps; David, Wright, and Mark Smith; Sally Lawrence; Sid and Barry Wright; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Lucius Smith.
Visitation was held Monday, January 20, at her home from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Funeral Service will be held at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church of Rome on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Rome. Those serving as pall bearers are Banks Camak III, Cooper Camak, William Young, Stephen Laseter, Justin Laseter, Timothy Pape Jr, and John Garner and are asked to be at the church by 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 101 East 4th Avenue Rome, GA 30161, The Nature Conservancy of Georgia, www.nature.org, Blacks Bluff Preserve, or to the charity of your choice.
