I taught across the hall from Mrs. Mize for 12 years, and loved her!  We collaborated, vented, and worked together with a lot of fun, typical teacher frustrations, and laughter. She often called on me to repair things in her classroom, and after awhile referred to me as "McGyver."  Her determination to make sure each of her students learned was unsurpassed. She worked tirelessly to challenge and/or remediate to meet student needs. I have greatly admired her, think fondly of our friendship, and know that she truly made a difference in the lives of her students. Fly high, Jeanette.   Love you!  Dr. Cheryl White

We are sorry for your loss. Ms.Mize was our neighbor for 50 years. We appreciated her friendship and kindness. She was a very nice sweet person who loved her family, animals and teaching. If the weather was bad as long as she could cross Taylors Ridge to school she would go. We thought a lot of her. She had our phone number and she knew we was always there for her if she needed us. We was sad to know she had left us. We will greatly miss her but never forget her. When we look out  and see her house it looks so lonely just knowing she is not there. Our cousin who was Principal at Summerville Elementary School said Ms. Mize worked well with the students and they worked well with her. She said she was a very good teacher. I really loved Jeanette. She was such a precious person and an absolutely wonderful dedicated teacher. She and I graduated from Berry  College in 1977 and started teaching at Summerville Elementary in August. She taught first grade that year and then joined me in third grade the next year. We both taught third grade together for many years. I retired in 2006, but she kept on teaching. She was just amazing!

I loved Mrs. Mize!  I taught with her for  many years at Summerville Elementary.  She was absolutely the best reading teacher I have ever met!  Jeanette was always professional and a hard worker.  Even though she was shy, she could tell the best stories about her life!  Mrs. Mize and I also shared a passion for animals, especially cats.  She was devoted to caring for all animals.  I loved her all the more for this devotion.   We have lost a rare gem and I have lost a dear friend.  I grieve with her family.  May God bless you all.

Ms Mize was a great influence on me as a young teacher. She was such a great help in learning to teach reading to my students. She always had a suggestion that worked like a charm. I have missed her since she retired. Anytime I faced a situation that needed intervention, I'd always think of her and wonder what she'd do! I've never seen students that would come back and ask about a former teacher as much as they did Ms. Mize! She will be sorely missed. Praying for your family. I enjoyed many years of friendship with Ms.Mize at SES.  She was wonderfully unique; respected by colleagues, loved by friends, appreciated by students,   and adored by quite a few cats.

I am so sorry for your loss. Ms. Mize was a wonderful teacher not only to the students who passed through her classroom, but all new teachers, like myself, who had the privilege to learn from her. She touched many, many lives.
