
Mrs. Jeanne Brown Wright, age 83, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday October, 15, 2013 at her residence. She was born on February 28, 1930 in Marietta, GA to the late Charles McDonald Brown and Helen Baxter Brown. She was the granddaughter of Governor Joseph Mackey Brown and Cora McCord Brown and the great granddaughter of Civil War Governor Joseph Emerson Brown and Elizabeth Grisham Brown.
Jeanne graduated from Marietta High School in 1947. She attended St. Mary’s College in Raleigh, NC and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1951 where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Jeanne married William Gardner Wright, Jr. on April 19, 1952 in Marietta. They moved to Rome in 1953 where they have resided since.
Jeanne was an active member in the community serving as President of the Junior Service League of Rome where she was awarded the Sustainer of the Year Award. She was a founding member of the Rome Chapter of the Colonial Dames and served a term as President of the Rome Chapter. Jeanne was a member of the Board of Trustees at Thornwood School as well as Darlington School. She was a member of the 4 Seasons Garden Club. Jeanne was also a member of the Board of Directors at Chieftains Museum and was Co-Chair of the 1985 Dogwood Ball for the Floyd Healthcare Foundation. She was an active member in the First Presbyterian Church of Rome, where she was a member of the Presbyterian Women of the Church and volunteered at the Soup Kitchen.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her brother, Charles M. Brown. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William Gardner Wright, Jr. Daughters; Suzanne Wright Protz and her husband, Steve Protz of Alpharetta and Mary Helen Wright Heaner and her husband, Andrew Heaner of Atlanta, grandchildren Mary Elston Heaner and Gardner Heaner, as well as a sister-in-law, Kathleen Tarpley Temple and her husband, Brooke Temple.
A memorial service was held Thursday October 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. William Flannagan and Rev. Larry Caywood officiating.
The family received friends on Wednesday October 16th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the family residence, 110 Fieldwood Drive, NE, Rome, GA 30161.
