With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Helen Kilgore Clonts of Rome, who entered into the presence of her Lord on March 8, 2026, at the age of 79. Helen was born in Buford, Georgia, on August 17, 1946. She was a 1964 graduate of Norcross High School and later attended Berry College, where she met the love of her life, Gene — whom she fondly referred to as “the good-looking jock.”
First and foremost was Helen’s deep love and passion for her Lord. She was a long-time Christ follower and wanted others to know Him, too. Her faith guided her life and shaped the way she loved and cared for others. She made it a priority to have her children in church so they could learn about the Lord, and she also helped teach dozens of other children the truth of God’s Word.
Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness, gentle spirit, and unmistakable spunk touched everyone who knew her. To know her was truly to love her. She was one of the funniest souls you could ever meet and was always ready to laugh and enjoy a good time. She was fiercely loyal and a true friend to all those she loved. If you looked up diligence and grit in the dictionary, you might very well find her name.
Among a variety of jobs throughout her life, Helen worked at Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union for 22 years, retiring as a branch manager. She found great joy in helping others and loved sharing stories about helping young people get their first car or take important steps as they were starting out in life.
She found great joy in caring for her family and created a home filled with love, warmth, and laughter, often gathering loved ones around the table for fried chicken and homemade biscuits. Even until her final days, she found joy in encouraging others, often reminding nurses how beautiful they were or telling them what a precious child of God they were.
Helen loved to garden and took pride in rooting and caring for all of her plants. Porch sitting with friends and loved ones while overlooking her creek was one of her favorite pastimes, along with sharing special lunches with her “heart sisters” and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Kilgore; her mother, Ruby Clack Kilgore; her brother, Brent Kilgore; and her sister, Sue Kilgore Oliver.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gene Clonts; her children, Steve Clonts (Kim), Brad Clonts (Crystal), and Emily Clonts Roach (Kevin); her cherished grandchildren, Jeb Roach, Lanie Roach, and Journey Hulsey; and her sister, Patricia Kilgore Fife, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Helen will be remembered for her loving heart, her unwavering devotion to her family, and the joy she brought into the lives of so many. While she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and reunited with loved ones who went before her. While her family knows she is now worshiping Jesus, they can also imagine her bringing laughter to heaven and making someone smile on the streets of gold.
Pallbears are: Jeb Roach, Grant Collier, Issac Collier, Chris Wright, Jeff Paul, and Colt Gaston.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Harbin Clinic Cancer Center volunteer program or the American Cancer Society.
Daniel’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to serve the family of Helen Clonts.
