Mr. Fisher was born on March 27, 1934 in New Jersey to the late John Raymond Fisher, Sr. and Annetta Christy Fisher (both laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia). He met and married his only love, Helene Gardner Fisher, from Pennsylvania on November 2, 1958.
Mr. Fisher enlisted in the same Army-Air Force Unit with his Father in 1952 and both served together during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from the Gulf Oil Company in 1985 as a Commercial Analyst before concluding his business career in 1995 with Rome Redmond Anesthesiologists Group, and then moving to Florida.
Mr. Fisher was the original motivating force and coach in his family’s basketball athletic successes as his son starred at Shorter College and his daughter at Pepperell High School. His first born grandson was a two-time Rome News-Tribune Player of the Year and currently playing at Mississippi College.
Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife, son David Fisher and wife Christine Haley Fisher, and daughter Dana Fisher Peters and husband Matt Peters of Memphis, TN, and brother in law Raymond Gardner and his wife Barb of FL.
Eight grandchildren also survive: Davy Fisher, Haley Fisher, Daniel John (Dane) Fisher, all of Rome GA; Maddie Peters, Katie Peters, Nicholas Peters all of Memphis, TN; Corey Ragan, wife Tara Ragan and great grandson Caleb Ragan of Canton GA; and Ben Ragan of Colorado.
Mr. Fisher’s commitment to his God, Family, and Country was an inspiration to all. A visitation for family, friends, and American Patriots was held on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Daniels Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m.
Graveside Services for Mr. Fisher were conducted Tuesday August 9, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Floyd Memory Gardens on Highway 411 with military rites by Shanklin-Attaway American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard and led by grandson, Davy Fisher. Honorary pallbearers were his son and grandsons.
