

A native of Floyd County, she was born in Cave Spring on January 10, 1919, daughter of the late Luther Largus and Clara Fuqua Wilson. Prior to her retirement, she worked over 30 years for the Atlanta Gas Light Company on Broad Street in Rome and was loved by all her customers and co-workers. After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively across the globe and enjoyed spending time with family. Prior to a bad fall and surgery, Mrs. McElhannon was an active member of the Rome First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 40 years, Thomas McElhannon; sisters Gladys Roach and Louise Estes; sister-in-law, Annie Wilson; brothers-in-law, Horace Freeman, Roscoe Roach and Edgar Estes; and nieces, Sandra Wilson Lawson and Martha-Jean Estes.
Survivors include one brother, Porter Wilson, and one sister, Doris Freeman, both of Cave Spring; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 17, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Dr. Robin L. Lindsey and the Rev. Robert L. Harbison officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were David Beard, Charles Pledger, and nephews Kenneth Wilson, Steve Wilson and H. L. (Sonny) Freeman, Jr.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, from 5 until 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Music Ministry, First Baptist Church, or in lieu of food donations to the Soup Kitchen, First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1189, Rome, GA 30162-1189.
