
Mr. Kirkman was born Randolph County, N.C. October 23, 1921. He was the son of the late Wade Lazell Kirkman and Franie Bell Lineberry Kirkman. He was also preceded in death by a sister; Maxine Kirkman Redding.
Mr. Kirkman grew up in Randleman, N.C. He started working with the GMAC Corporation in Charlotte, N.C. in 1948 then move to the Rome branch of GMAC in 1963 where he retired after 38 years of service as manager of the Rome branch. He was a member of First Methodist Church, Rome, the Coosa Country Club since 1963, and a former member of the Rome Lion’s Club. His favorite past-time hobbies were golf at Coosa Country Club and cards. He was also the organizer of “The Cod’s Fight Golf” of Coosa Country Club.
Survivors include his wife; Betty C. Kirkman of Rome, to whom he was married for 38 years, one son; Phil McGinty of Silver Creek, one daughter; Lisa McWhorter and her husband, Tracy, of Rome, and three grandchildren Ben McWhorter, Madyson McGinty and Davis McGinty.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home Tuesday evening September 24, 2013 from 6 until 8 p.m. A graveside service was held Wednesday morning September 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Floyd Memory Gardens with Rev.
