
Dorothy was born in Winston-Salem, NC, on January 7, 1933, the daughter of the late William Bynum Elliott and Dorothy Gosnell Elliott. She was an honor graduate of R. J. Reynolds High School in June, 1950, and a graduate of N.C. Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her RN Degree in 1954.
She was a member and past president of the Floyd-Polk-Chattooga Medical Alliance and an associate member and past president of the Four Seasons Garden Club. She was a past board member of the YMCA, a Red Cross Volunteer and a member of the Rome Symphony Auxiliary. She attended the First Presbyterian Church and the Snow Hill Old School Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Thomas Wade Jackson, Sr., to whom she was married December 28, 1953; four sons, Tom Jackson, Jr. (Sue), Kennesaw, Mark Jackson (Darlene), Sanford, NC, Robert Jackson (Nancy), Lawrenceville, and David Jackson (Jennie), Lexington, KY; one daughter, Rosemary Jackson King (the late T. R. King), Huntsville, AL; two brothers, Bill Elliott (Hilda) and Franklin Elliott (Betty), all of Winston-Salem; one sister, Mary Ruth Staerker, Huntington, WV; 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home, Rome. Interment followed in Floyd Memory Gardens, Hwy. 411 East, Rome, GA.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Saturday, January 25, 2014, from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m.
