Lisa Buchanan Mccord

Ms. McCord was born April 11, 1961 in Smyrna, GA. She is the daughter of the late Stanley Wayne Buchanan who preceded her in death in 2006.

Ms. McCord grew up in Rome where she attended East Rome High School. She loved collecting antiques, loved arts and crafts and loved flowers and gardening. She was a member of Second Ave. United Methodist Church. She was known by everyone for her smile, her good heart and she had a special affection for stray animals. Her family said that it always broke her heart to see dogs wondering on the highway, and she always wanted to pick them up, some of which she did, but knew she couldn’t help them all. The pride of her life was her son CPL. Gary Wayne McCord of the United States Marine Corps. Lisa would comment to her family that she loved getting letters from her son while he was stationed at Paris Island for basic training. She would write him back and tell him how proud she was of him and how proud she was being a “Marine mom.”

Ms. McCord is survived by her son CPL. Gary Wayne McCord who is currently serving in the Marines in New Orleans LA., her mother Mary Ellen White Buchanan, two sisters Cathy Adams and her husband Bruce of Rome, Paula Pearson of Guyton, GA.; Aunts Elaine Buchanan Graddy and her husband Wayne of Griffin, GA., and nieces Casey Cleveland and her husband Trent of Cedar Springs, GA., and Megan Pearson of Valdosta, GA.

A memorial service for Ms. McCord will be conducted Saturday April 2, 2011 in the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Christian Counselor Kathy Lumpkin and Rev. Tom McElroy officiating. Piano accompanist for the service will be Mr. Bobby Venable. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until the funeral hour at Daniel’s. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributiosn be made to The Humane Society, 518 Broad St. Rome, GA 30161. Daniel’s Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
