Shep was born on December 2, 1953, in Gadsden, Al, the son of Virginia Shepard Grant and the late John Porter Grant. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Porter Grant, Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Virginia S. Grant, Rome; three sisters, Anne Grant Harbin (Frank), Virginia Bracey Grant and Frances Winn Grant; nieces, Allison Harbin Model and Eliza Wynne Renner; and a nephew, Grant Porter Harbin.
Shep ran a computer business in Atlanta for many years and had a wide range of interests including books, computers and especially music.
A private family ceremony will be held at a later date
