
Mary Dean Towers Harris, 91 years old, Rome, GA, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012. She was born on February 27, 1921 in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Rome when she was 5. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Broach Harris, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donigan Dean Towers, and her siblings, Mrs. Julian B. Cumming (Pauline Towers), Mrs. Robert M. Gibbons (Evelyn Towers) and Mr. Robert Edward Towers.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Robert S. Ogletree (Diane and Bob) and Mrs. Edward W. Hine (Linda and Ed), grandchildren, Robert Sibley Ogletree, Jr. (Stephanie), Elizabeth Ogletree Ponder (Todd), James Fletcher Ogletree, II, John McDowell McElrath, IV (Stacey), Benjamin Harris McElrath (Sarah), and Edward Taylor Hine (Brie), and three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Harris was a graduate of Cooper Hall, Rome, Georgia, Hollins College, Roanoke, Virginia, and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, New York City.
She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church Rome, Georgia and a member of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America.
A memorial service was held, Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Visitation followed in King Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Minister Discretionary Fund, First Presbyterian Church, 101 East Third Ave., Rome, GA 30161 or the Thornwood Scholarship at Darlington School, 1014 Cave Spring Rd., Rome, GA 30161.
