Mildred Bishop Hudson

Mrs. Hudson was born in Polk Co., GA on Jan. 28, 1919, the daughter of the late Richard Henry Bishop and Emma Locklear Bishop. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marion W. Hudson, on Sept. 30, 2000, by a son, Tommy Hendrix, by a daughter, Joy Gilbreath, by a step-son, David Hudson, and by two brothers, Wilbur and Bunyon Bishop.

Mrs. Hudson retired in January, 1980 as deputy clerk of Floyd County. She was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church where she taught the Joyful Servants Sunday School Class which now carries her name. She and her husband started the Church Homebound Ministry which remains active today.

Survivors include one son, David R. (Jackie) Hendrix, Atlanta; one daughter, Glenda H. Doss, Rome; one step-son, William Hudson, Atlanta; two step-daughters, Kathy (Lee) Baker, Macon, and Pam Hudson, Macon; two sisters, Edna (Roy) Morgan, Loris, SC, and Henrietta (Earl) Gurley, Aragon; one grandson, Chris Doss; three granddaughters, Karen Lee, Vickie Colbert and Joy Marie Carlton; four step-grandchildren, Jason Hudson, Rebekah Ogletree, Stephen Baker and Carly Stephens; 12 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Second Avenue Baptist church with her pastor, the Rev. Monty Stallins, officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hudson will be escorted to her final resting place by her Bishop family nephews: Bob Sauls, Douglasville, Steve Bishop, Hampton, Neal Turner, Loris, SC, Richard Bishop, Maryville, TN, Ronald Wolfe, Villa Rica, and Jeff Haley, Douglasville. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mildred Hudson Joyful Servants Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
