

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, November 9 at the First Baptist Church Sanctuary, Rome, with Dr. Joel Snider and Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-3pm in the Sanctuary before the service. Honorary pallbearers are members of the O. M. Cates Sunday School Class and the members of the Exchange Club. Pallbearers are Fred Dent, Mike Tolbert, Joe Rowston, Roger Goss, Scott Smith and Tripp Bagby. Graveside services will follow at Eastview Cemetery.
Mr. Tippin was born on March 31, 1926 in Rome, GA, the beloved only child of Milton Tippin, Sr. and Ethelyn Tippin. He graduated from Rome High School and entered the Army on his 18th birthday during WWII. He served in the infantry in the 78th lightning division. He was involved in major battles in England, France, and Belgium including the Battle of the Bulge. Among his many decorations, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
After the war, he married the love of his life, Jennette Todd Tippin at the First Baptist Church of Rome on June 11, 1947. Then he enrolled in Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC earning a B.A. in Math graduating 3 years later in 1950. He loved to return to Clinton and Presbyterian for homecoming and other football games combining that trip with a visit to his niece. For him, it always felt like a family reunion.
Mr. and Mrs. Tippin returned to Rome after graduation where he began his career of 43 years in finance, mortgage loans, and banking. He spent the first half of his career at Citizens Federal Savings and Loan from1950-1973, and the last half with SunTrust of N.W. GA from 1973-1993. He retired as Sr. Vice President.
Shortly after returning to Rome, Mr. Tippin joined the First Baptist Church where he remained involved for the rest of his life. He served on the Board of Deacons and was a Life Deacon. He was a member of the Exchange Club for over 50 years serving as president of the club in 1965, and president of the Coosa Valley Fair in 1971. Mr. Tippin also served as secretary of the fair and several terms as treasurer. He was also treasurer of The Floyd Training and Service Center for 40 years. His beloved son was a client there his entire adulthood. He also served on the Board of Highland Rivers. Golf was his favorite hobby, and he shot his age several times during his retirement years. He was a legacy member of the Coosa Country Club, and Past President of the Nine O’clock Cotillion.
Mr. Tippin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, and a nephew George Shaw. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Joe Walter, grandson, Joseph Lee Walter, Jr., and granddaughter, Elizabeth, all of Atlanta, GA; first cousin, Helen Lane of Rome; a niece, Barbara Shaw Brinson of Laurens, SC, and many cousins from Rome, Dalton, and Cedar Bluff, AL.

Arrangements are made by Daniel’s Funeral Home (706)232-3646, and the Honor Guard of the American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5 is in charge of military honors.
