Mr. Hottinger was born in Chicago, Ill on February 2, 1918 and lived his life in Chicago until he moved to Rome with his daughter, Mary, and her husband Biggs Harrison in 2008.
Richard was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Navy Seabees at Pearl Harbor and later on the islands of Samar and Leyte in the Philippines.
He was an ornamental ironworker and shaped the skyline of Chicago for decades. This year highlighted his 75 years of service in the Chicago Ironworkers Local 63.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome and is survived by his 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Interment for Mr. Hottinger will be at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
Dad’s engaging smile, his sense of fun and humor and his skill with jigsaw puzzles that were shared with many, will be greatly missed. Having dad with us for his final years has been an honor and a privilege.
