
Mr. Bailey was born in Rome, GA June 10, 1929. He was the son of the late Paul Thomas Bailey and Nettie M. Bailey. He was also preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jane Dillard Bailey to whom he was married in 1987 who died in December of 2014.
Mr. Bailey proudly served in Korea as a Corporal in the United States Army. He worked at the Fox Manufacturing Company here in Rome as the Transportation Manager. He also owned and operated the Rome Army Store. He was a founding member of the Rome Coin Club and enjoyed holding its annual coin show. He was a member of the Noon Day Optimist Club. He loved traveling and was an avid gardener.
Survivors include one daughter: Jane E. Byars (William) of Rome, and one grandson: William “Chip” Byars of Astoria, NY.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home Saturday June 6, 2015 from 12 pm until 1:30 pm. A graveside service was then held at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens at 2 pm with Chaplain Alan Fuller officiating. The Shanklin-Attaway Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 5 provided military rites. The family requests donations to be made to the American Legion Veterans Organization, 5 Shorter Ave., Rome, Georgia 30165.
