Mr. Goolsby was born in Woodland, GA, on April 1, 1932. He was the son of the late Lawrence Nelson Goolsby and Irene Hendricks Goolsby. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson Goolsby and John Goolsby.
Mr. Goolsby grew up in Pleasant Hill, GA. He later attended and graduated from Georgia Southern University receiving his Bachelor's degree in Education, a Master's degree from the University of Georgia in Education, and an Education Specialist Degree from the University of West Georgia. He worked in the Rome City Schools for 18 years where he served as Associate Superintendent. In his post retirement years he served as a part time local pastor for the Wesley United Methodist Church and Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Coosa. He also worked in the Rome Urban Ministries. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He even continued his theological studies at Emory University, and attended the Berry Senior College Great Books program. He loved school, teaching, and his dog, B.J.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Todd Gooslby of Rome, to whom he was married for over 50 years; two sons, Todd Goolsby of Hiram, GA, and Jeff Goolsby of Newnan, GA; grandchildren, Landon, Lauren, John, Hallie and Braden Goolsby. Also surviving are two brothers, Foster Goolsby of Camilla, GA, and Fred Goolsby of Manchester, GA; two sisters, Jane Teaver, and husband, Paul of LaGrange, GA and Doris Gibson of Loganville, GA.
The family received friends Friday evening, June 19, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 6 :00 pm in the parlor of Trinity United Methodist Church, Rome. Services for Mr. Goolsby were conducted Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Floyd Tenney, Dr. David Campbell and Dr. Wayne Hopper officiating. Entombment followed in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.
Those serving as active pallbearers Saturday were: Larry Goolsby, Tony Gibson, Jimmy Madden, Sam Evans, Joe Tarpley, Dennis Chumley, Walt Glover, Hoke Kidney and Dwight Tolbert are asked to please meet in the lobby of the church no later than 1:15 pm. The family requests that the Fellowship Sunday School Class serve as honorary pallbearers where there will be a special seating for you.
