Roy was the son of the late Tom Stanley West and Shirley Salmon West of Rome, Georgia.
He grew up in Rome and was educated at St. Mary's Catholic School and Darlington School. He went on to attend Shorter College, where he studied political science and found joy in the company of like-minded friends, especially through his fraternity, Phi Delta Tau.
Roy enjoyed working in his family's construction business, as well as in the manufacturing and textile industries. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and quiet, consistent care for the people and animals around him over the course of his life.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 23 years, Renee A. West of Silver Creek, Georgia and his cherished son, William Newcomb West, and daughter-in-law, Bailee West of Centre, Alabama. He was a loving and supportive brother to Frances Ann West of Rome, Georgia, and Mary Tom "Mattie" Paris and her husband, LTC Breckenridge Paris of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by many aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews who will remember his gentle spirit and loving presence.
A man of deep personal faith, Roy found peace and meaning in the liturgy and solemnity of the Episcopal Church. He loved sharing his love of God with others in quiet, thoughtful ways. He also found joy in the stillness of nature, especially while fishing - a pastime that reflected his contemplative nature.
In accordance with his wishes, a private Celtic Evening Eucharist will be held with immediate family to honor his life and faith, without distraction from the beauty and sacredness of the Rite and Sacrament.
Roy will be remembered for the love he gave freely, expecting nothing in return. His life was a quiet testament to grace, humility and faith.
