October 7, 1947 – October 11, 2025
Sally DuPree Wimbish was born in Rome, Georgia, on October 7, 1947, to the late Shaffer Burke and Ruth Sauls Wimbish. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Shaffer Burke Wimbish Jr., Stephen Sauls Wimbish, and Suzanne Sauls Wimbish McElwee.
She will be dearly missed by nieces, Mary Burke Wimbish Nadeau and Dana McElwee Carnahan; great-nephew, Jack Sauls Carnahan; and cousin, Kathy Millikan Espy.
Sally enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a legal secretary, spending most of her professional life with Troutman Sanders LLP in Atlanta, Georgia.
Other than family, Sally most treasured her faith and friendships. After retiring in 2014, she returned home to Rome, where she became an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, finding comfort and validation in this faith community. Sally gathered friendships all her life; from St. Peter’s friendships, some of which dated back to kindergarten, to neighbors both new and old, and especially her group of high school classmates who gathered weekly - both in person and over Zoom - for conversations and laughter.
Sally found joy in simple pleasures: walking the beautiful Berry College campus, tending to her patio where she loved watching birds gather at the feeders, and traveling extensively throughout Europe, especially enjoying Scotland, particularly Edinburgh, France, Germany, and Spain.
A celebration of Sally’s life will be held Monday, November 10th from 4-6pm in Daniel Hall at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rome, Georgia followed by a private burial in Savannah, Georgia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to your favorite charity.
