Vera Pilgrim Wilkinson

Mrs. Wilkinson was born May 8, 1930 in Rome, GA, daughter of T. H. Pilgrim and Lillie Mae Shedd Pilgrim. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Arvie Pilgrim; and her husband, Wallace Knox Wilkinson.

Mrs. Wilkinson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rome, GA, where she had taught kindergarten and was a member of Circle and the Women of the Church. She also taught and was actively involved in the establishment of Rome’s Head Start program. Mrs. Wilkinson was an artist who enjoyed painting, antiques, gardening, decorating, pottery and theater. She was involved with Rome Little Theatre as a program designer and artist, and she was a member of the Rome Garden Club.

Survivors include three children, Wallace Knox Wilkinson, Jr. of Rome, Sallie Wilkinson Ballard and husband, Troy Ballard of Birmingham, AL, and Martha Louise Wilkinson of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, Maggie Ballard, Hank Ballard, Chloe Ballard and Luke Ballard, all of Birmingham, AL; and two nieces, Andrea Pilgrim Whittington of Clermont, FL and Becky Pilgrim Smoak of Dallas, TX.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wilkinson will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 3:00 pm in the sanctuary of Rush Chapel United Methodist Church, 1225 Rush Chapel Road NE, Shannon, GA with Pastor, Valarie Loner officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Rush Chapel United Methodist Church on Sunday from 1:30 pm until the funeral hour.
