Born in 1933 in St. Laurent, Reg started working at Bell Telephone when he was 18 years old, collecting dimes from phone booths. He met his future wife of 67 years, Carol Chicoyne, when she and her family moved into the area.
Reg and Carol were married September 15, 1956, at Rosemere United Church, and in 1960 they bought a house in the new subdivision in Ste. Rose.
Reg worked at The Bell downtown and would carpool to work in the early morning hours. Even with his long work hours, he volunteered with the Ste. Rose Boy Scouts for 10 years and was
treasurer for the Ste. Rose United Church for over 15 years. Reg retired in 1991, a few months before his 58th birthday, after 40 years of working for Bell Telephone. He and Carol loved to go bowling and were in a league for many years, and Reg enjoyed curling at the Rosemere Curling Club. Reg was a loving husband and father who supported his children in all of their endeavors, and he loved his summer visits "back home" to Carol's hometown of Barachois in the Gaspésie.
Reg is survived by his wife Carol Appleby (nee Chicoyne), his four children, Janet (Bill), Rodney (Anna), Jennifer, and Heather (Eric), his sister Judy Appleby (John), as well as 7 grandchildren, 4 greatgrandchildren, and many stepgrandchildren and inlaws. He is predeceased by his parents and his siblings Patricia (late husband Ellard), William (Ailsa), and Wilma.
A Memorial Service will be held at Riverside United Church in Rosemere on March 2nd at 2pm. The family will welcome friends before the service starting at 12:30, and there will be a reception after the service. A funeral service with the burial of ashes will be held this summer in Barachois, exact date and time to be determined.
Donations in Reginald's memory can be made to All Saints by the Sea (St. Paul's Barachois Church) via etransfer to [email protected] or by mail to PO Box 44, Barachois, G0C 1A0. A special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Soins Palliatifs Gracia for their care.
