

Elaine Ruth Hammond passed away peacefully on August 18, 2012 at the Rosetown & District hospital at the age of 50. Elaine was born in Kyle on June 14, 1962. After living in Kyle, the Speir family moved to the Davis Ranch. Some of her favorite childhood memories included the annual brandings, and Shetland pony named Flash. After that, they moved to the Headman farm. She fondly recalled her Dad’s Hipwaders and all the water each spring. In 1972, they moved to Lacadena where she spent the rest of her childhood. She attended school in Lacadena & Elrose and graduated in 1980. Elaine was employed by McMaster Photographers for 4 years, and then continued her photography in Elrose opening up a studio, Reflections By Elaine, and extending her business to Rosetown in 2001. Sports always being a passion to Elaine, she took on a part-time position as Rec Director in Elrose in 2007 until her cancer diagnosis in 2010. Elaine married Roger Hammond of Elrose on June 9, 1984. They welcomed their first daughter, Mackenzie Page on January 28, 1990, and their 2nd daughter Brooklynn Carley on May 21, 1992. Elaine is lovingly remembered by her parents, Bob & Iva Speir, her husband Roger Hammond, her daughters Mackenzie (Layne) McDonald, and Brooklynn Hammond, her sisters Sharon (Leonard) Dick, Cynthia Speir (Brent Seufert), Jill (John) Speir-Potter, Robin (Tracey) Munroe, Heather (Ryan) Smith, her brother Ryan (Abbie) Speir and many nieces and nephews. Elaine will be remembered by her huge heart, her kindness and her big smile. The Funeral Service was held at the Elrose Memorial Hall Friday August 24, 2012 at 2:00pm, with Mr. Jim MacNaughton officianting. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, as well as the Elrose Fire/Ambulance. Arrangements entrusted to Clements Rosetown Funeral Home.
