Elizabeth "Betty" Selsey of Harris passed away on December 20, 2013 at the Eston Jubilee Lodge where she had been a resident for the past two years. Betty was born in Regina, SK on February 19, 1924 and lived in Francois Lake, Houston, Shawnigan Lake, Victoria and Mile 147 on the Alaska Highway in British Columbia. It was in northern BC that she met Fred and married him in Dawson Creek, BC on March 21, 1949. They returned to the Harris area in 1950 and in 1957 moved into the house that they built at Crystal Beach. Betty was a lady of many talents. She was a perfectionist at knitting, sewing, quilt making, crafts and leather tooling, which helped to finance her dream trip to Australia. She was an avid gardener and a leader of the local 4-H Light Horse Club, organizing and hosting many trail rides and gymkhanas. She and Fred square danced and pattern danced and eventually travelled to other clubs to help people learn the old time pattern dances. Her love of dancing was only exceeded by her love of animals. She cared for many orphaned or injured wild birds or animals that needed a home, and many of them took the round trip to school for Show and Tell in the jeep of course. Betty was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Elizabeth Anderson, her brother Derek in 1990, Derek's two sons Terry and Jodie, her son-in-law Boyd in 2005, her great grandson Michael Williamson in 2003 and her beloved husband Fred in August 2013. She is survived by her brothers Trevor (Florence), Jerry (Gladys), her 3 daughters Nita (Alana and Kara), Linda and Donald (Audra, Bruce, Brent, Rose) and Beverley and Russ and numerous great grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Tea held for Betty at the Harris New Horizon's Hall on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial Donations may be made to the Eston Jubilee Lodge, Box 667, Eston, SK S0L 1A0.
