Our beloved mother, Anna Jane Adell, peacefully passed away at her home on May 2, 2026, at the age of 101, surrounded by her children. Born Anna Jane Emer on March 2, 1925, in Roseville, California, she was the daughter of Blas and Marija Bilic-Panto Emer, who immigrated from Trogir, Croatia. To her nieces and nephews, she was lovingly known as Auntie Ann.
She is survived by her three children: Scott Adell (Alex), Mimi Adell, and Gaylee Clarke (Jim). Her grandchildren, Ariella Philpot (Michael) and Preston Adell, as well as her nieces and great-grandchildren, also survive her. Anna was preceded in death by her siblings, Winifred Millar, Paul Emer, Katherine Jessee, and Mary Shuler, her former husband Bruce N. Adell, and by her godparents, Mate and Anna Emer Buble.
Anna attended Roseville High School. With her signature style and grace, she brought elegance to the Bon Marché department store in downtown Sacramento, working until her marriage to Bruce Norton Adell. Together, they made their home in Sacramento, where Anna became the heart of the family, supporting Bruce’s work as an architect and lovingly raising their three children.
Anna’s life is a testament to quiet devotion, always placing her family’s needs above her own. She was ever-present at school and church events, helped with homework, attended ballet recitals, and even sewed doll costumes for Nutcracker performances. Anna’s thoughtfulness extended beyond her immediate family, as she faithfully honored the memory of loved ones by bringing flowers to their graves.
Her home radiated warmth and care, always alive with the scent of homemade meals, laughter, and love. Anna celebrated her Croatian roots by passing down treasured family recipes and keeping cherished traditions alive.
Anna’s passion, creativity, strong will, and quick wit shone through in everything she did. Ever curious, she underlined passages about history, science, and the world around her. Her adventurous spirit once led her to hatch pet turtles’ eggs, carefully recording every detail.
Her steadfast spirit and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her radiance will forever brighten our souls, and her kindness will continue to shine within us.
