Our dear friend, Detlev Adolfo Buchart was Born in Valencia, Venezuela on November 25, 1951 to Gunther Buchart of Germany and Nany Dunzelmann of Venezuela. He passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025. Detlev Adolfo was preceded in death by both of his parents and by his brother Hartwig. He received all his general education in Venezuela, and travelled with his mother to the United States on many occasions for medical reasons, after which he returned to Venezuela to finish high school. He later decided to return to the United States to obtain a college degree from the California State University, in Sacramento where he majored in Theater Arts. Detlev Adolfo loved his major and participated in numerous plays during his college years. Although his brother Hartwig died in Venezuela, his two younger brothers, Francisco and Marc, immigrated to Europe where they still reside with their wives and children. Being that Detlev Adolfo’s parents were German; he and his siblings were raised speaking German. However, because they were born and educated in a Spanish speaking country that stressed the importance of being versed in English, they were also fluent in Spanish and English.
Detlev Adolfo was outgoing, very friendly and had many good friends with whom he kept in close contact. He was warm and affectionate, and always greeted you with a hug. He was funny and loved to tell corny jokes. He always called to congratulate friends on their birthdays, their anniversaries or to console them on the death of a loved one.
Detlev Adolfo was a great fan of our local sports teams, the Kings, the Sacramento Republic, and the River Cats. He was also a super fan of the Giants, and though he possessed many nice clothes, you would mostly see him wearing Giant t-shirts and Jackets. One of his most passionate pastimes was attending games with friends.
Another one of Detlev Adolfo’s passions was watching horror movies, the scarier, the better. He had a collection of over 500 horror movies that he was very proud of. He loved to modify fairytales to the horror of his adoptive nieces and nephews, and, next to Christmas, Halloween was his favorite holiday. His brother, Francisco, tells of when Detlev Adolfo and his brothers were kids, and he would scare them with such tales.
Detlev Adolfo was also a man of strong faith. He never forgot what his mother taught him about never straying away from the love of our Lord. His closeness to God was evident by his love and gentle kindness towards all.
We will miss you dear friend, brother, and uncle. Thank you for your love and friendship of 61 years. We hope to meet again in heaven someday.
