Jay “C” Hines, 90, passed from this worldly life last Monday, January 24, 2011.
Jay was born in Livermore, Kentucky October 6, 1920 to Millard and Ida Hines and moved with his family to Detroit, Michigan in the early 1930’s.
After completing elementary school, Jay began working as an apprentice carpenter and, in 1942 joined the Navy to serve his country.
At the end of WWII, Jay married Alice Lorraine Snow in San Francisco (August 4, 1945) and returned to his construction career in Detroit.
He quickly rose to the level of foreman and ultimately superintendent.
Jay moved his family (Alice and two children – Dana and John) to California in 1960 to take advantage of new job opportunities and he spent the next 30 years working as a construction superintendent throughout California on projects ranging from schools and libraries to nuclear re-fueling stations.
Upon retirement from construction, Jay and Alice enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their motor home, visiting family, making new friends and having new experiences. Alice passed away on 11-18-1993 and Jay began a new phase in his life.
Always an avid dancer, Jay met Lucille Whitney and they enjoyed a very special relationship for the remainder of Jay’s life. Jay and Lucille belonged to several dancing groups in the Roseville and Sacramento areas and danced almost three times a week for the past 15 years.
Jay is survived by children Dana and David Johnson (Weimar) and John and Nanci Hines (Midland,
Texas).
He enjoyed a special grandparent relationship with Douglas and Pamela Johnson, Dianna
and Steve Cannon, John Hines, David and Jessica Hines and Katherine Hines.
He deeply loved his great grand children Larrisa Henry, Cearra Cannon, Kendra Cannon, Sarah Hines, and Grace Hines.
In addition, Jay dearly loved and maintained a very special relationship and truly enjoyed sharing his views of life and the world with his nephew Carl Gowan of Detroit, Michigan.
Jay will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends and will be lovingly remembered for his passion for life, his tenacity to see things through to the end, his willingness to do anything anyone asked of him and for his wonderful memories of 90 years of living.
Visitation will be at 5pm with services at 6pm January 28, 2011 at Lambert Funeral Home, Roseville California.
