Jean Rockwell, born May 30, 1927, passed away January 28, 2016. Jean entered this world in Wilkinsburg, PA. Her proud parents were David and Clara Rhodes. Jean graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and entered Carnegie University. Music was her major. The cello was her primary instrument. She was first cello in the schools symphony orchestra.
When her father retired, the family moved to San Rafael, CA. Jean went to work for Pacific Telephone Co. In time she became a Sales Training Manager. In July of 1956 mutual friends invited her and Bud Rockwell to a barbeque. They were strangers that day but not for long. Two months later they announced their engagement, and married on February 10, 1957. It wasn't long before Jean resigned her job to become a full time housewife. The next logical step was to become a fulltime mother. Their first child (a daughter) was followed by a son. They moved to Carmichael in 1967. Her husband (also employed by Pacific Telephone) retired in 1983. Now they had time to enjoy doing their favorite pastime - traveling in their R.V. and fishing. This pastime took them all over the western states as well as Canada. Their love for the outdoors and fishing prompted them to move to Shingletown in Shasta County where they stayed for twenty years. In 2013 they decided to move back to the Sacramento area to be closer to family. They moved to Eskaton Village in August of that year.
Jean was constantly applying here interest in arts and crafts: water color painting, sewing, stamping, etc. The possibilities of computer design intrigued her.
She was a very supportive wife and mother. Animals (particularly horses) were the daughters love. She is now a ranch wife. Cars were the passion of the son. He now owns a business customizing cars.
Jean is survived by her husband, daughter Cynthia Jorgensen, and son Dean.
A memorial service will be held for her on February 27 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthew Church located on Lone Tree Blvd. in Rocklin.
