Joan’s life began growing up on a dairy ranch in Schellbourne, Nevada, a now historic pony Express landmark. She loved the ranch lifestyle, enjoyed helping her father with ranch chores, and caring for the cows and horses. She graduated from White Pine High School in Ely, Nevada and began her career in banking. Later, she met the love of her life John Pete Sefakis from Salt Lake City, UT and was married at the Saint Alexios Orthodox Chapel in March of 1956. They celebrated over 50 wonderful years together and traveled to many states across the country including Alaska and Hawaii. Joan loved all animals, especially horses, cats and dogs. Mom‘s career in banking spanned over 40 years. She adored her job, and her customers adored her.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and husband John and is survived by her daughters Cynthia Sefakis and Michelle Stoddard (Jeffrey), granddaughter Heather Heusser (Aaron), grandsons Michael McDonald and Ian Stoddard, and great-grand-daughter Morgan Riley Heusser. She is also survived by her treasured sister Mary Pappas, loving sister-in-law Kelly Sefakis, many adored nieces, and a cherished nephew.
On her behalf we want to thank her team of leaders and caregivers at Eskaton whose palpable love and kindness shone on mom every day. She was a loyal friend and an amazing mother. May her memory be eternal.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Eskaton Foundation or Saint Anna’s Orthodox Church.
