Johanna “Anna” A. Slingerland passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on March 25th, 2018 in Granite Bay, CA at age 99.
Anna was born March 12th, 1919 in Noordwijkerhout, Holland to her parents, Johannes and Adriana Warmerdam, and she grew up on the family farm with her 7 brothers and 3 sisters. Anna and her beloved husband of 43 years, Gerardus Slingerland, immigrated to the United States in 1951, and settled in the Sacramento area two years later. Anna returned to Holland many times over the years to visit family and friends that she left behind.
The happiest times in Anna’s life were spent with her loved ones. She had a very large family and many friends with whom she loved to socialize and play cards. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, needlepoint, bingo, traveling, and attending church.
Anna lived independently and maintained her own house and yard until she was 89, after which she resided at Sierra Regency in Roseville for 6 years. She spent her final 4 years living happily with her son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Vicki, who made her feel welcome and took excellent care of her until her passing.
Anna was a devout catholic and continued to receive communion until shortly before her death. Her faith gave her great courage and strength. She remained cheerful and upbeat until God let her pass to enter heaven.
Anna is survived by her sons and their wives, Nicolaas (Marilyn), Johannes (Theresa), and Leonardus (Vicki) Slingerland, as well as grandchildren, Stacie, Nick, Jena, Kristin, Livia, and Kellie, great grandchildren, Max and Elleana, sisters, Shaun and Elle, and many nieces and nephews in both Holland and the USA. Anna was predeceased by her husband, Gerardus, brothers Piet, Leo, Jan, Gerard, Albert, Wilem, Theo, and sister Allie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Lockford, CA and she will be laid to rest at Harmony Grove Cemetery.
A reception will follow. Relatives and her friends are welcome to pay respects.
