John is survived by his wife, Sandra Barry, his children, daughter Jennifer Barry of Marysville, son Michael Barry and his wife, Teresa Barry of Chico California, son Brennan Barry of Magalia California, step-son, Jon Crane of Napa California, step-daughter Jennifer Crane of New York City, step-son Robert Crane of Rocklin California, sister Betty Williams of Oregon, granddaughters, Crystal Isakson of Palermo California, Brittany Barry of Chico California, Elena Crane of Napa and Maile Crane of Napa, and Kennedy Hope Crane of Novato; great-grandchildren, Leone Roszak of Palermo and Cooper Roszak of Palermo and his first wife, Charlotte Garrison of Magalia California. John is pre-deceased by his brother Francis Barry, sister Phyliss Barry, sister, Laverne Trautner, brother Roland (Bud) Charles, father Francis Cleve Barry and mother Rose Elsie Swanson and grandparents John and Gertrude “Jennie” Lindblad.
John graduated from Oakland Technical High School in Oakland California in 1952 and attended Ohlone College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957 and received an honorary discharge in 1959.
John enjoyed skiing as a young man and was an avid golfer, having taken it up late in life. He especially enjoyed playing golf with his children. John also enjoyed watching all types of sports, was a devoted 49-ers, Giants and Warriors fan and was a man who had an amazing talent for “fixing” , building, and landscaping. He had a wonderful sense of humor, sparkling eyes and smile and enjoyed family gatherings. His love for animals was a joy to watch, having many pets over his life, finally leaving behind his beloved dog “Sam” and cat “Patch”.
John worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 43 years, where he served over 20 years as the union treasurer, retiring in 1996 to live on the island of Maui, where he honed his golf skills in the Hawaiian sun. He returned to California with his wife Sandra in 2000 to reside in Sun City Lincoln Hills, moved to Arizona for 4 years and returned to Lincoln in 2010, where he lived until August of this year. John David Barry passed away quietly on November 11, 2018, in Rocklin CA, surrounded by family and friends. His light in this world is missed.
