I only knew Mr. Piches for a brief period of time.  We were in the Roseville Rotary together.  He was a man with an infectious smile and huge heart.  I believe I will always remember him and when I do think of him it will put a smile on my face and in my heart.  You will be missed Mr. Piches.

 Johnny Piches was one of my Dad's best friends going back to their school days in Roseville. He always was interested in others. Genuine and sincere. He is one of the last links to a different era of Roseville and what a wonderful place it was to grow up in.

I began working for Mr. Piches (he will always be Mr. Piches to me) in 1972 when he managed the St. George Medical Center in Carmichael.  Part of my job included taking the Racing Forms he brought me with certain races circled, calculating all the horses' times at each point in the race, and transferring this information to large ledger cards he kept for future reference.  (I have long since forgotten how to do this.)  And since my desk was right outside his office, I remember him calling people on the phone and giving them his name.  This would be followed by a pause while the person on the other end of the line would guess how to spell "Piches," after which he would laugh out loud and say, "What do you think I am, some kind of fruit?"  Then he would nicely spell his name.  Often Mrs. Piches would come into the office and you could tell he just adored her.  I would like Dave and Donna to know that their dad was a wonderful boss and a wonderful man ... but I suspect they already know that.  May all of your memories be joyful.

Dave and Donna,  I am deeply saddened to learn of your father's passing.  He was a wonderful and dear friend to our family his whole life. The last time I saw and visited with your Dad was when he attended my mother's funeral sixteen years ago this month. We had a nice visit since it had been many years that we had not seen each other.  I will always remember his smile and the respect and fondness  he had for my parents and family.  My thoughts and prayers are with you both at this difficult time.  I know that the loving and fond memories of your father will help sustain you in the days, months and years to come.

Sir John will surely be missed by many but I will miss his dedication to veterans and his humor.  It was a pleasure to interview him at home amongst his treasures; especially his collection of Roseville High School Memorabilia (see RHS Centiennial Yearbook (1930-1939).  It would be a pleasure if his legacy could be archived with the RHS Alumni Association's contribution to the High School and its future students.  Always a friend, Richard Duran '59.

The Holidays our country celebrates will not be the same without my Shipmate John Piches.

i can't even begin to tell you how john piches took my son in and taught him how to care and ride horses he won many races and has the trophys to show how good he was ,it made the man my son is today ,thank you john you will be miss  .

My deepest sympathies to you Dave and Donna. Your dad was a wonderful man who accomplished so much for his family and community.  His legacy will be long remembered.

He was a super guy! Roseville will miss him deeply.

Boss was a joy to work with on the Roseville Chamber of Commerce's Revitalization Committee (now called C3 or CORE). I enjoyed listening to his commanding emcee expertise at the annual Veterans Memorial events on the 100 block of Vernon Street each year. Boss will remain a legend for generations to come. His son, Dave, is a testament of the results of John's parenting. I will miss the man I knew as "Boss."

It was my pleasure and honor for Boss to have included me in his Veteran's Ceremonies. Mostly I was FDR, but on occasion I was Harry Truman.Through the years of ceremonies we became great friends. The wisdom he shared has not gone to waste - my grandchildren are recipients, especially on the subject of leadership. My life was blessed by my association with John.,. "Happy New Year, Boss"

Dear David and Family,

Your dad will be sorely missed by many and the whole city of Roseville, for his forever giving of time and spirit to our great city. May many fond memories, pride in his accomplishments, and his true role model character, give you much consolation at this very difficult time.
