

John enlisted in the US Air Force at the age of 20. Throughout his 24 years of service, he spent time overseas in Tripoli, Libya and Vietnam. He was a distinguished member of the US Air Force, receiving over 20 decorations including the Air Force Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and Air Force Vietnam Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1974. Following his service in the US Air Force, John worked for California Exposition and State Fair (Cal Expo) as the Assistant Chief of Security until he retired in 1992.
John was an avid sports fan. He and his brothers raced stock cars in Virginia in the early days of the NASCAR organization. In his later years, many a Sunday was spent watching the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series or the San Francisco 49ers.
John was a loving father to John M. Snead (Neptune Beach, FL) and Jan Snead (Roseville, CA), adoring grandfather to Danielle Wallace (Roseville, CA), Morgan Snead (Neptune Beach, FL), and Zachary Snead (Neptune Beach, FL); brother to Mildred (Snead) English (Roanoke, VA) and Steve Snead (Roanoke, VA). He is preceded in death by his father – Bernard Snead, mother – Lucy (Updike) Snead, sister – Doris (Snead) Kreske, brother – Gordon Snead, and loving wife – Patricia Snead. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and will always be remembered for his courage, humor, punctuality, and zest for life.
A viewing for the family and public will be held at Lambert Funeral Home on Saturday, September 15 from 4 – 7 p.m. Lambert Funeral Home is located at 400 Douglas Blvd, Roseville, CA, 95678. Private burial services will be held on Tuesday, September 18.
