Joy Westrup

December 16, 1930December 29, 2018

Joy Westrup passed away peacefully on December 29, 2018. She was a long time resident of Rocklin and married to the love of her life Walter Westrup for 40 years until his death in 1990. She is survived by her daughter Gail Westrup (Doug Gifford), son Bruce Westrup (Barbara Morton), grandson Jeremy Cappalo (Jennifer) and great granddaughters Amelia Joy and Melanie Lee.

Joy was born in Fresno, California December 16, 1930 to Gould and Elizabeth Hopkins. She was preceded in death by her brother Henry Hopkins and sister Lee Patterson. She graduated from Fresno High, attended Fresno Junior College, and married Walter Westrup on November 19, 1950. They lived in Fresno and later Placerville where Walt was co-owner of Patterson Motors. In 1969 they moved to Rocklin when Walt founded Reliable Pontiac Cadillac in Roseville.

Joy “held down the fort” raising their two children Gail and Bruce and was very involved in the life of her grandson Jeremy when he was born in 1985. She was active at her church, Holy Cross Lutheran in Rocklin and volunteered for many years with the Roseville Hospital Auxiliary. Joy was involved with Bible Study Fellowship, Christian Women’s Club, Women of Faith conventions, and regular birthday lunches with close friends. She also traveled with friends and family, and in 2015 and 2017 she welcomed her great granddaughters Amelia Joy and Melanie Lee into the family.

She was truly Mom until her final days to Gail and Bruce, a wonderful grandma for Jeremy and Jennifer, and loving GG to Mia Joy and Emmy. In the words of Mia Joy, “GG went to Heaven.” A celebration of her life will be held Saturday January 26, 2019 at 2pm at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4701 Grove Street, Rocklin.

Memorial donations may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Rocklin.
