FLESORAS, Kristen Joy (Kyriazis) Kristen Joy Flesoras, the daughter of James and Georgia Kyriazis, was born in Los Angeles on August 13, 1972. Raised in Anaheim Hills with her younger sister, Renee Kyriazis, of Redondo Beach, she was the first girl baptized (Godparents E.J. and Irene Constantine of San Juan Capistrano) at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral by the newly ordained Reverend Father Michael (Nectarios) Rymer. She was the niece of Dr. Ted Theodore and Dolores Theodore (of blessed memory) and the first cousin of Andrea Theodore (Husband Robert Gray) and Catherine Dacey (Husband Michael & children, Michael, Theodore, and Charles) of Menlo Park with whom much of her childhood memories were created and shared. Throughout her youth, Krissy was a recognized athlete in soccer, volleyball and softball. Although she would continue to play volleyball through high school, her passion was softball. The recipient of numerous awards and accolades including MVP of the high school conference, Krissy was recruited to University of California, Santa Barbara to play Division One softball. A starting player all four years, she held several batting records and was recognized by the university for her athletic achievement and scholarship. Krissy graduated from UCSB in 1995 with a B.A. in Environmental Sciences. It was during these years that she would attend St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church and also serve as a staff member at St. Sophia Summer Camp, a church camp that she had attended throughout her youth. In 1991, she also met her future husband, Rev. Dr. Christopher Flesoras, of Modesto, the son of Dean and Angie, who was serving as the camp lifeguard. Engaged on September 13, 1995 in Boston, they were married at St. Sophia Cathedral Los Angeles on October 13, 1996. Upon Christopher's ordination and assignment to serve as the second priest at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Belmont, Christopher and Krissy would reside in nearby San Mateo. During these years, Krissy excelled in her chosen vocation as a technical writer for an environmental consulting firm. In 2001, Fr. Christopher was assigned to serve the Parish of St. Anna in Roseville, California, the community in which she would reside until her untimely repose. Her full-time work in the environmental field continued until the blessed birth of their first son, Constantine, in 2006. Although her primary vocation was now serving as a loving "Mommy", Krissy would occasionally consult as a project scientist. In 2008, Fr. Christopher and Krissy were blessed with their second child, Gianna. Gianna and Constantine, were her greatest joys and loves. Throughout their youth, Krissy remained dedicated to raising them as faithful Christians, as well as respectful, congenial, loving, and fun-filled children, well appreciative of all things athletic. Their youthful persons, for whom she was so proud and with whom she had no greater joy, testify to her success as a mother! In October of 2012, Krissy, after a lifetime of being an athlete and a non-smoker was shockingly diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. She was assisted in and encouraged by her immediate and extended family, her koumbari, her Orthodox Christian family, as well as her gifted physicians and nurses at Sutter Roseville, UC Davis Cancer Center, and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, throughout her battle with cancer. She found a blessed resource in the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (BJALCF) - as well as its founder, Bonnie - and fellow survivors, as well as the means to share her experience via her well-anticipated blog on CaringBridge. With great determination and joy, Krissy raised close to $60K for BJALCF in 2013, the greatest amount ever raised by an individual in any of the annual walks. Krissy remained faithful and full of hope until her very last breath, accepting of her circumstances, but lamented her lack of being physically present for her children. Surrounded by members of her family while hospitalized in Boston, she was also visited by numerous Orthodox Christian clergy and friends from throughout the United States. She reposed peacefully on July 9, 2014. In addition to family members previously mentioned, she is survived by her aunts and uncles through marriage, Diane Papageorge Eckels, George and Barbara Papageorge, Tony and Mary Biskinis, Coste and Ivana Flesoras, her cousin, Nicholas, and her godchildren, Harrison Pardini, Ted Spiro, Jeff and Katerina Baxter, John Verdaris, Vasilios Palumbis, Brian Menas, and Lori Christensen. His Eminence, Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, will officiate at funeral services, which will be prayed by a pan-Orthodox brotherhood of clergy and laity from throughout the United States. The Trisagion, or Memorial Service, will be celebrated on Wednesday evening at 7pm, and the Rite of Burial will be prayed at 11am Thursday morning at St. Anna Parish, Roseville. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park in Sacramento, in proximity to Rev. Fr. Demetrius Dogias, of blessed memory. The Makaria, or memorial meal, will be graciously hosted at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Sacramento.
