

Maria Jean Maneatis of Granite Bay, CA passed away on September 17, 2017 with her loving and devoted family by her side. Maria was born on January 29, 1927 in the beautiful seaside village of San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily to Natale and Girolama Flores. At the age of 2, Maria came to America with her parents and settled in the Monterey Peninsula as many Sicilians did in the early 20th century. Maria was the oldest of her siblings, Dr. Frank Flores, Rose Douglas and Elizabeth Pittman.
After her studies at Monterey Peninsula College, Maria moved to San Francisco where she was a buyer and model at Ransohoff’s Department Store. There, she met a handsome and elegant naval officer who had accompanied his sister on an errand to purchase a hat. Maria married John Maneatis in 1954 and they raised their family in San Mateo and Hillsborough for many years. In 2006, they moved to Granite Bay to be closer to their children. They spent 54 cherished years together until John’s passing in 2009.
Maria was an amazing and beautiful soul who touched everyone she met with her kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity, and fun-loving spirit. Maria’s dedication to her church and her faith was the fiber of her being. She used her extraordinary gifts to bring others happiness and love. Throughout her life, she volunteered for many charitable causes through her church and other organizations. She was an excellent gardener, a talented artist and an unbelievable cook. Maria made her home the center of countless gatherings and family celebrations where she effortlessly hosted guests who enjoyed her delicious food that she always served up with lively conversation and much laughter. Her gift of hospitality was only surpassed by her unrelenting and unconditional love for all of her family. Maria’s effervescence was contagious. She always made people feel loved, at ease and important.
Maria was a devoted wife, loving mother and “Nonie”, a beautiful sister, precious Thea Maria and a wonderful friend who will be dearly missed. She will remain a bright light in our hearts forever. Maria is survived by her four children, Jim (Kay), Steve, Joanie Jones (Brian), Diana Coates (Michael), her sister, Elizabeth, her grandchildren, Natalie, Stephanie, Nick, Jenny, Maria, Melissa, Christina, Isabelle, Jessica, Jonathan, John, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
