Marie Sis Antonia Schloegel Broer

Marie A. Schloegel Broer died April 6, 2012 at her home in California with her family at her bedside. Marie is one of seven children of lifelong Gulfport residents, Joseph Schloegel and Nancy(Bertucci) Schloegel. Marie attended Gulfport High School class of “42 and was the center on the girls basketball team. Marie entered the Cadet Nursing Corp in support of WWII and attended St. Joseph’s nursing school in St Louis. That is where she met her beloved William Broer and married in 1948. Marie continued her nursing career her entire life, all the while raising 4 children. Her greatest joy in life was her children, and loving her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her dear sister, Rosie Parkerson, baby brother, George Schloegel; her children: Steve Broer, Cynde Jones, Nancy Diehl; 10 grandchildren: Tiffani Broer, Kristi Cianni, Kimberly Cooper, David Broer, Rachel Broer, Paul Cottingham, Mason Beck, Brianna Stoneham, Sara Beck, Elizabeth Cottingham; and 7 great grandchildren: Jeromy, Hannah, Bethany, Shane, Cody, Wyatt and Alec. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Bill and son Bill, Jr. In her last seven years, Marie was loved and cared for by Rosana and Gary Mead at Helping Hands.

Marie’s never ending love for her precious Gulfport has been shared with her family throughout her life. As a result her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community Foundation in memory of Marie (Schloegel) Broer. (www.mgccf.org)
