

Marilyn Joyce Stanaland-Murrill, 80, passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2016. Marilyn was preceeded in death by the love of her life, Jerry Dale Murrill, just 5 months earlier. Marilyn and Jerry were married March 6, 1955 in the Rocklin Covenant Church and shared 60 joyful years together. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn (Tom) Rogers, son, Timothy (Lisha) Murrill, her sister Vida Rasmussen, and brother, Bob Stanaland, 5 grandchildren: Carrie, Cheryl, Melinda, Michael, and Jennifer, 4 great grandchildren and many loving nephews, nieces, extended family, and lifelong friends. Marilyn was proceeded in death by 1 brother, Laurie Stanaland, and 3 sisters, Betty Day, Jeanie Haworth, and Patty Hanaway.
Marilyn was born in Roseville on September 16, 1935 in a home that once stood in the present Lambert Funeral Home parking lot. She had deep roots in the Roseville community.
Marilyn loved music and her love of music started at an early age when she began playing violin and piano, and was a proud “Tiger” graduate of Roseville High School where she played saxophone in marching band. Marilyn shared her gift of music, touching many lives through playing piano/organ for hundreds of church services, weddings, and funerals throughout her life.
Marilyn worked in Civil Service for 35 years, retiring as a GS-12 Supervisor and Branch Chief. She started her career early at McClellan AFB, literally the Monday following her Friday graduation from high school.
While both Marilyn and Jerry shared a dedicated work ethic, they lived by their motto: work hard, play hard. Marilyn and Jerry enjoyed activities together including bowling, camping, motor cycle riding, water skiing and even horse shoes in their big back yard on Eureka Road.
Marilyn was a woman of strong faith and family values. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church on Coloma Way in Roseville for over 40 years. Marilyn adored her children and grandchildren. She was a meticulous housekeeper, a gracious hostess, and she made the best fried chicken in the world! Marilyn could always be counted on to quietly show up at a friend, family member, or neighbor’s house with a full crockpot of food when needed. She was generous and loving, with a beautiful smile and encouraging words to share.
Friends and family are invited to attend Marilyn’s celebration of life service at First Southern Baptist Church, 1301 Coloma Way, Roseville on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016 at 11:00 AM, with her beloved nephew, Randy Guild officiating. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Roseville Cemetery with a luncheon immediately following at Springfield Whitney Oaks in Rocklin. Those who would like to make a donation in remembrance of Marilyn, may make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Sutter Hospice in her honor.
