Matthew Elliott Spence, age 45, died unexpectedly on Sunday March 25, 2018. He was born on June 7, 1972 to William and Frances Spence of Rocklin California. Matt worked as a chef for the first half of his life until he earned his MBA and began a successful career at the Water Resources Control Board with the State of California. Matt is survived by his wife Shannon, his daughter Isla, his parents, and his brother Brian. He will be missed by many friends and extended family who truly loved him. He was a loving husband and devoted father and nothing was more important to him than his family. Matt was fiercely devoted to the Detroit Red Wings hockey team and watching them play was one of his greatest joys. In addition to his love of hockey, Matt was a talented chef and accomplished guitar player. A quiet and proud Scotsman, he enjoyed sipping a good scotch especially when paired with a fine cigar to end his day. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
