Merlin Lilburn Holton Sr. was called home to be with Our Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 3, 2011 while resting comfortably at home with his wife, Lorene Mae Holton, of 53 years. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Lambert Funeral Home. Immediately following the memorial a luncheon will be hosted by his family & friends at the Clubhouse of the Sierra Meadows Mobile Home Park, located at 7600 Daly Ave., Citrus Heights, CA 95621.
Merlin was born on December 23, 1921 to William Albert and Trinidad Aguilar Holton in Livermore, CA. He joined the Navy at 16 yrs. where he worked in Search & Rescue. He was an auto / diesel mechanic by trade most of his adult life, using those skills owning & operating his own shop in Banning, CA and later as a diesel inspector for the California Highway Patrol. He joined several civic community groups, ie Banning / Beaumont Elks Lodge (Charter Member), Life Time Member of Masonic Lodge, and the Pahrump Valley Eastern Star.
Merlin married Lorene Mae Rutledge on June 22, 1958, whom survives his passing. He was also survived by his daughters, Jenna Wiggins and Barbara Browning; son, Merlin L. Holton Jr.; 7 grandchildren: Tracy Browning, Nikki McCaskill, Michael Stults, Merlin Holton III, Roger Browning Jr., Carly Holton, & Rachel Holton; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was also survived by his brothers, Jack Holton, FD Holton, and sister, June Wessel. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Bill, Gil, Al, Buddy and sons, Larry Holton and Michael Sevier.
