Michael John Sonn

The world lost an incredibly kind and loving man on October 27th. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family in a room filled with laughter, love and memories at the age of 87.

Michael J Sonn was born at home on December 18th, 1935 in Lemmon, South Dakota to August and Lorraine Sonn. He was the oldest of 6 children.

Mike served in Korea for 2 years for the armed forces, eventually going to school in St. Paul and graduating with an engineering degree.

Mike was a dedicated family man, husband, father and papa. He married the love of his life on December 26th 1959 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Together they moved to San Jose where he began his 35 year long career at Lockheed Martin as a nuclear testing engineer.

In his retirement, Mike enjoyed traveling with his wife, golfing, catching up with friends over breakfast, and attending their granddaughters’ softball games. He was an avid gardener and could often be found with his nose in a good book. He was a quiet man with a big heart and a desire to learn.

Mike spent his final years surrounded by family and enjoyed spoiling his great granddaughter.

Mike is survived by his wife Pauline (Penny) son Greg Sonn and daughter Jackie Morris (Mitch), granddaughters Whitney Phelan (John) and Casey Ferguson (Luke), and his great granddaughter Emma.

Services and celebration of life will be held in the Spring of 2024 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
