10/2/1932 - 6/17/2012
Nora K. Grimm, 79, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on June 17, 2012. She was born on October 2, 1932 in Rochester, NY to Margaret Todd Kearns and Wilfred McDonnell Kearns.
She was a graduate of Connecticut College for Women. In 1955 she married Arthur Richard Grimm USNR, and they moved to California to begin their life together. Nora and Art settled in her current home in Loomis (now Granite Bay) in 1966. There they raised a family of five children and Nora cared for Art during his 29 years as a quadriplegic. They enjoyed spending time and traveling with family, playing bridge, swimming and doing the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle in pen.
In 2002 Nora married Richard Lundquist. They enjoyed traveling, gardening, birding and the Sacramento Kings.
Throughout her 6 year battle with cancer, Nora continued to travel the world. Her adventures took her from the mountains of Uganda where she hiked to see the gorillas, to the beaches of Hawaii where she learned to surf at the age of 76.
Nora was dedicated to a life of service to others. As a young mother, she co-founded a co-operational preschool. She was a Brownie and Girl Scouts leader, a room parent, a catechism teacher and a longtime member of the Hidden Valley Board and the Hidden Valley Women's Club. After her children were grown, she immersed herself in numerous volunteer and charitable organizations as well as her church, the new St. Joseph Marello Parish in Granite Bay. She was especially interested in charities that addressed the needs of women and children. She was active in the Assistance League, Ladies Social Outreach, Marion Guild, Ride to Walk, Koinonia Family Services and the Covenant House.
Nora is survived by her five children, Linda Grimm (Zekra) of Portland OR, Mary Porisch (Lee) of San Antonio, TX, Michael Grimm (Brigit) of Los Altos CA, Teresa Carso (Ray) of Chicago, IL and Margaret Grimm of Chicago, IL, and her 9 grandchildren Johann, Kyle, Greta, Todd, Ingrid, Libby, Mac, Ally and Meg, as well as sister Nancy Morris Skragg of Youngstown, OH. She will be dearly missed by Dick's daughters Jane Lundquist of Sacramento, CA and Aleigh Lundquist of San Diego, CA
In addition to her parents, Nora was preceded in death by her husband Art of 41 years, her second husband Dick of 8 years, and her brother David Kearns.
Visitation will take place at St. Joseph Marello Catholic Church, 7200 Auburn-Folsom Rd, Granite Bay on Sunday June 24, 2012 at 5-7pm. Celebration of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Marello on Monday June 25, 2012 at 10am. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. All are invited for a luncheon to celebrate Nora's life at Oak Lake. Bring your swim suit, if so inclined.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to charities Nora held dear. The Assistance League of Greater Placer:
