I remember when Uncle Robert and his family would come to visit us in Illinois from California.  Californians were so cool to us. Lots of good memories of my tall dark and handsome Uncle Robert. R.I.P. and I look forward to seeing you again in heaven.

I thought I'd share what it was like to be Bob Wroblewski's granddaughter. Being his granddaughter meant we had special traditions. For as long as I can remember, when he and Grandma came to visit, they took me and Rebecca to iHop for funny face pancakes (the chocolate chip ones with whip cream smiley faces). Another tradition Grandpa had was calling on Valentine's Day. Just last February I got a phone call from  him saying "Robyn will you still be my Valentine?" Just like every year, I agreed despite the fact he was two timing my sister and I - she got the same phone call.
Being his granddaughter meant I learned important life lessons - big and small. Whenever I eat at a fast food restaurant with self serve soda, I get a refill on my way out. I will always remember him telling me "We paid for that refill, let's use it!" He had the same philosophy about finishing my meals.
Being his granddaughter meant I got to hear cool stories. Grandpa could talk for hours about his life - he had a full one! Whether he was sharing navy stories with my classmates, recalling how he met my Grandma, or describing life during the depression, Grandpa had a story to tell. And I am so glad I listened because it taught me a lot about who he was. He was an incredibly hard worker who was grateful for the blessings God gave him and that was very apparent when he told his stories. 
Finally, being his granddaughter meant knowing I was loved. I don't think there was ever a phone call that didn't include at least three "I love you"s and that was in addition to the "I'm so proud of you" reminders and "Muah" kisses at the end. In fact, Grandpa didn't seem to think there was enough love to go around with just him, so when I was younger he invented this character "SNORT". No one but Grandpa really knew who - or what - SNORT was. The best way to describe him was some character Grandpa made up stories about. And he would tell us "SNORT came by today, you just missed him. He asked about you and said to give you his love." It was kind of weird looking back now but I know it was just another way for Grandpa to remind me I was loved.
I am so blessed to have been Bob Wroblewski's granddaughter for 23 years. I got 23 years of pancakes, 23 years of him asking "How'd you get so pretty?", 23 years of him singing the Red Robin song, 23 years of reminders to clean my plate, and 23 years of love. I have so many memories to keep until I see him in heaven.

When I got married to Ross in 1990, my own father had already passed away. I had the priveledge of calling Bob "Dad" and he always called me and treated me as his daughter. I cherish the good times we had together on holidays and vacations at our homes and at their places in Tahoe and Roseville. Watching him with grandchildren was a joy and it was clear he loved them so much. He always had kind words to say to them and me them and was such a good role model with strong convictions and faith in God. I will always hold very dear the memories of the "Dad"'and "Pop-pop" (as my daughters called him ) that we loved very much.

Bob and Marilyn we're like brother and sister to us Bob was the brother we never had we were the brother and sister Marilyn never had we were best of friends from the early sixties in Pittsburgh where our kids played together. We formed a partnership and purchased a 228 acre farm with coal and gas wells. Then they moved to California and we moved to Connecticut they moved several places in California and we moved several places on the East Coast ending up in Bucks County eastern Pennsylvania. Even though we live 3000 miles apart we remained best friends visiting each other, traveling together and skiing for almost two weeks of every year until our beloved Marilyn went to heaven.We miss them both very much they are in our constant thoughts and prayers. We're happy even though they're gone because they are now together in heaven.

We kept in touch with Bob on the phone the last several years a few times every month.
We miss them both very much they are in our constant thoughts and prayers but we're happy even though they're gone because if there is a heaven they are both there together now.

What a joy to have had Bob as a personal friend. He was always ready to share what the Lord was doing in his life with those around him. Bob loved the Word of God and was instrumental in establishing a CD ministry dedicated to his wife Marilyn that has been called "Scripture for Hope." Over the past eight years the church has given away several hundred of these CD's and they have all lovingly provided through the Wroblewski family. Thank you, Lord, for Bob and Marilyn.

Celebrating the life of a very special man who never complained but always greeted you with a smile. We will miss him at Pleasant Grove Community Church and around Sun City, but we know he is resting in eternal peace and joy with his Savior and his beloved wife Marilyn.

King High Remembers: Bob Wroblewski's Story
 
Bob Wroblewski; one of the many veterans, who has risked their lives for the red, 
white, and blue. A fire control man, who has experienced the variety of struggles during World War II and the Korean War. Wroblewski's role in the military has made a huge impact on his life; it's taught him self- discipline, self-reliance, and self- confidence. 
Bob Wroblewski born and raised in a small cozy town in Iowa called Anamosa. 
With no less than 3,000 people living in the town, Anamosa was a very charming place to live, a place where Wroblewski loved with all his heart, if not very close to all. Wroblewski grew up as the youngest with his sister and three brothers. In high school he participated in the sport of football and basketball in his sophomore and junior year. At the age of seventeen, at the end of his junior year he lefthigh school to join the military, specifically the navy. Joining the navy was almost every mans dream in Anamosa. The navy was a key element to getting out and traveling the world and seeing what was out there. Wroblewski was in on it with no hesitation. He was full of patriotism, a word everyone knew in the days as a positive sign. However for the people not joining to serve the country, unless they were unable physically which sometimes were or their cars would be painted yellow as a sign of coward ness. This was not a color Wroblewski would see on his property, if he was given a color it would be luminous and non-sore for thee eyes, defining his courage and heart. 
The year was 1946, it wanted to be the first time he would join the war but not the 
last. But before Wroblewski would head off into the navy he would have to face the harsh 
and cold living of boot camp, located in San Diego, CA. Boot camp was not a very pretty place. Wroblewski got the taste of war reality and camp would teach him lesson after lesson to make him a stronger better character. After boot camp he would be apart of the fire control squad. Being a fire control man would mean being in control of the weapons, specifically guns aboardship. Fire control men would determine where the guns would be shot, calculate if the weather would effect their shot, and figuring out how long it would take to hit the target. After boot camp Wroblewski would be on an air craft carrier stationed on the East Coast. While on the ship he would travel to many different places, some such as the parts of Asia like China and Japan, also his crew would travel up and down the Mediterranean and all over Europe, specifically traveled on his ship through the Dardanelle Straights near Turkey. During his second hitch in the Navy he was on a sea-plane tender. Practicing at battle stations would be like actual war for Wroblewski. One weapon he would deal with would be a 40 millimeter.
For entertainment Wroblewski and his ship mates usually just sat around and told 
stories, played cards, or pulled off pranks on each other while in Hong Kong Sampan Mary who owned a fleet of sampans managed by women, painted the sides of Wroblewski's ship for their garbage. The food on the ship was good enough for Wroblewski's stomach. The food would have to be shared with the British who would from time to time come along on aboard, with Wroblewski and his ship mates. The British were nicknamed Limeys for all the lime they ate to try to avoid rickets. His experience in the Navy was a big part of getting an education. Very determined of where and how he was going to get his education. Wroblewski was talking to a close friend one day about colleges and majors. He would have his G.I. bill to pay his way through any college of his choice. Deciding to attend the University of Oklahoma to be a petroleum engineer, but would drop finding he had a change of mind. Throughout his thirty six months of being in the navy he spent twenty seven of those years on a ship. He would appreciate every moment of the naval experience. When done with his duty he would return to his wife they were married for 54  years, and they would have their own joyful journey. They would leave in seventeen different places around the U.S. and would enjoy their RV and their cruises. Wroblewski had received a Victory Medal as did all that had accompanied him in the wars. 
Bob Wroblewski now resides in Roseville, California about 12 miles away from 
Sacramento. The naval experience has shown Wroblewski that discipline is a thing everyone needs to encounter. And everyone Wroblewski has a chance to speak to can hear his story. Life in the military is now engraved with those he has served with and has made an impact on those he had joined the military to protect. The navy had got me to college and has taught me, if I never joined I don't know where I would be today.

Bob and I did not know each other well but I did enjoy the times we did spend together .His passing makes me regret that we did not have the opportunity to get to know each other better.He drove to Minnesota in 2009 and stayed with us for a few days and it was a fun time.I know that he is with the Lord and I hope all who loved him find comfort in this.

Bob and Marilyn, came to Sun City and came into our lives as best friends...What fun times we had with clubs, activities and travel. Best of all we all loved the Lord and studies together to draw near to him. We miss you both dear friends and know Heaven is keeping you busy.  Paul and Carolynn Paul Carolynn Smith
