Stanley Charles Oppegard

Stan was born to Charles and Alice Oppegard in Henning, Minnesota, and grew up working on the farm. He excelled both academically and athletically - playing football, wrestling, and track.

Stan attended St. Olaf College, playing football there for four years and earning a degree in Biology and History. After college, he served as an Officer in the United States Navy, being honorably discharged as a Lieutenant after serving on the USS Ticonderoga and the USS Brough. He then attended UCLA, where he not only earned a master's degree in public health but also met the love of his life, Suzanne. They have been married for 58 years and have two sons, Gregory and David.

Stan spent over 40 years in healthcare and hospital administration, holding positions including Resident at South Coast Community Hospital, CEO at Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, and Vice President at Catholic Healthcare West. He also served as Interim CEO for several rural hospitals in Northern California and Nevada, and as Deputy Secretary for California's Veterans Homes. His other professional accomplishments included serving as Chairman of the Board of the California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems; Fellowship in the American College of Healthcare Executives, as a Regent of the College; and as Chairman of the Hospital Association of Northern California. He also took great pride in serving as Board Chairman of the Sacramento Salvation Army Advisory Board, President of the Sacramento Horsemen's Association, Master Announcer of the Chancellery Chapter of the Knights of the Vine of Sacramento, and Board Member for the Antique & Classic Boat Society, Northern California/Lake Tahoe Chapter.

Stan is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne; his sisters, Yvonne and Joanne; his sons, Greg and David, and their wives, Maria and Jennifer; and four beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Lindsey, Madeline, and Matthew.
