

Vernon E. Simmons, born on June 4, 1925 in Moody, Missouri, the loving son of Lewis and Emma (Stone) Simmons, passed away with his family by his side in Rocklin, California on October 27, 2013 at the age of 88 years. Vernon's Family moved westward to California when he was 2 years old. He attended Westwood High School, Graduated from Chico State University, receiving a B.S. Degree in Business. Vernon went on to become a supervisor for the Board of Equalization for 25 years. Vernon was drafted into the military shortly after his 18th Birthday in 1943. He completed his basic training with the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division at Camp Gruber Oklahoma. He was assigned to Company B, 222nd Infantry Regiment. In 1944 he was transfered to the 79th Infantry Division at Camp Phillips and assigned to Company F, 313th Infantry Regiment. On July 6th, 1944, Vernon was injured in a battle and after several months of rehabilitation was honorable discharged from the Army and received a Purple Heart. Vernon is survived by his cherished family, Daughter, Virginia Simmons of Longview, WA, Son-in-Law, James Barton, Grandchildren, Vernon Barton and his wife, JoAnne of Cathlamaet, WA, James Barton and his wife, Jennifer of Galt, CA, Jamie Quigley of Cathlamet,WA; Great Grandchildren, Hailey Quigley, Ryan Quigley and Tyler Barton. He is also survived by his Dear Friend and Campanion, Ruth Addis. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian and His Daughter, Vickie E Barton. Visitation will be held on Sunday November 3rd, 2013 from noon until 4:00 p.m. at Lambert Funeral Home Chapel,400 Douglas Blvd, Roseville,CA followed by a reception at 4;30 p.m. at the Diamond K Clubhouse, Richards Drive, Roseville,CA. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held on Monday, November 4th, 2013 at 1;00 p.m. at Westwood Cemetery, 670-105 Hwy 36, Westwood, California. Vernon was so loved by his family and friends, and will be deeply missed. He lived his life to the fullest. He was an avid Golfer, enjoyed his daily bike rides and the theater and concerts. he especially enjoyed time with his family and friends.
