Wayne Merkle was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Madelyn and Merle Merkle on Wednesday, 11/29/1939. He was their only son, and a loving big brother to his sister, Susan, who was born four years after Wayne. Wayne and Susan were raised in the small town of Independence, Ohio.
Wayne passed away in his home in Rocklin, California at age 84. He was welcomed into Heaven on Sunday, 3/17/2024.
He graduated from Independence High School in 1957. Wayne was close to his classmates, and remained friends with them throughout his life. He was on the reunion organizing committee and flew across the country to celebrate their 50+ class reunions.
He married Marjorie Squire on May 13, 1961. They found joy in their 62 years as a married couple, and raised three great sons: Wayne Jr., Ross, and Scott.
As a young husband and father, Wayne attended night school and took classes in Information Technology as computers began to be used in business. Wayne was excellent in math, science, and computers.
He left Ohio and continued to enjoy a career as a manager in Information Technology for companies in Massachusetts and California. Wayne finished his career as an independent consultant. In total his professional life spanned 44 years.
Wayne believed that integrity and honor were critical values in his life, and he would not work for a company that did not display these characteristics in their business practices. He refused to compromise his values no matter what compensation package he was offered. Wayne wanted to demonstrate his commitment to acting honorably in every aspect of his life.
He was a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. He worked tirelessly on grounds and maintenance tasks. He worked with the finance committee to restructure expenses and retire church debt. As an usher, it was important for him to wear a suit every Sunday. Finally, he was part of the Dulos service group.
Wayne was a coach for his sons’ football teams. He was a die-hard Brown’s fan, an excellent amateur drag racer, a softball player, bowler, golfer, gifted guitarist, trivia expert, and a Magnificent Magician. He loved telling stories, and kidding with his friends and family.
He had a passion for travel. Wayne and Marjorie visited many countries. Seeking new adventures in the world was a favorite pastime for him.

His sons: Wayne Jr., Ross, and Scott.
His sister: Susan Urban (nee Merkle)
His 6 grandchildren: Rachael, Emily, Amanda, Kevin, Connor, and Kylie
And his great granddaughter: Aislynn
Wayne was an intelligent, kind, funny, amazing man. He is enjoying new adventures in Heaven. His family, and his many friends will miss him.
