Anastasia M. Goetz (Stasia) was born to Carl and Catherine Borland on November 21st, 1931. She was the baby of the family and had six siblings, two brothers and four sisters, Vincent, Bernard, Magdalene Lorenda, Margaret Cecilia (Celie), and Marguerite. They all preceded her in death.
She met her husband, Angus Gillis Goetz (Gil) on a blind date and it was love at first date. They were married on February 3rd, 1950, and together they had four children Curt (Judy), Catherine (Kay), John, and Denise (Jeff Fournier). They had nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Stasia and Gil were deeply in love and shared that love with their children and grandchildren. Love was always in the air when we were all together.
Her favorite thing to do always involved family, the whole family. They played cards together; they camped together traveled around Michigan and whatever they did always involved some sort of shenanigans. The stories are numerous and cause boisterous laughter. It is always a warm feeling when the family discusses the stories. The favorite story is one that happened when she was out shopping by herself and got stuck in a storm door display at the hardware store for one half hour.
Later in life she ventured into the working world. She obtained a job at Saint Paul Catholic Elementary School in Grosse Pointe as a kitchen aid. She was the dishwasher in the cafeteria and often talked about how much she enjoyed the job and the people; she worked there for fourteen years. Her favorite part was the relationships she built with the kiddos. They always got a kick out of her silly earrings (one ear was a fork and the other a knife) and she had many similar pairs. She would stand at the window to collect the dirty food trays. The kids would check out her earrings and the party was on. She loved kids because she had the heart of a child.
Stasia’s last days were complicated by dementia. We are grateful for the wonderful life she led and her quiet and peaceful passing. May she rest in peace in the arms of Jesus.
