Carpoforo Chavez

Popo was the eldest of ten children. He lived his first 30 years in his native Mexico, ultimately emigrating to the U.S., living both in Colorado and Michigan. Popo was a resident of Pontiac, Michigan for over 40 years, where he met and married his wife Sally on May 26, 1971, raised their children, and had the honor of being the stepfather to Sally’s children.

He retired from General Motors Corporation as an assembly worker in 1999 and spent the rest of his retirement years enjoying his family and friends. Many of his passions and hobbies included his love for horses, watching western movies, singing and playing the guitar, listening to norteña music, playing conquian (cards), collecting rifles and handguns, going to gun shows and the shooting range with his son Martín, and appreciating and working on classic cars.

He was strong, courageous, intelligent, creative, and a man who loved very deeply. He was a man of great humility, integrity, and faith, and he loved his family with all his being.

Mr. Chávez leaves to cherish his memory: Children, Martín (Marina Santini) Chávez, Christina (Michael) Molson; Stepchildren, Fidel (Teresa) Cantú, Pedro (Elena) Cantú, Monica (Francisco) Torres, Roberto Cantú, Francisca (Oscar) Almeida, 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Rita (Amador) Rodríguez, Herlinda (Rodolfo) Márquez, Valente (Cruzita) Chávez, Efigenia (Ofelio) Gutiérrez, María de Jesus (Concepcion) Gutiérrez, and Francisca (Gustavo) Loya; 23 nieces/nephews, 46 grand-nieces/nephews, and 12 great grand-nieces/nephews, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Mr. Chávez was preceded in death by his parents, Flavio and Herminia (Lozano) Chávez, wife, Sally Sara Chávez, grandchildren Jermaine & Dale Mance, brother José Chávez, and sisters María Chávez and Gerónima Chávez.

El Sr. Carpóforo (Popo) Chávez nació el 15 de octubre de 1938 en Rico Chico (Balleza), Chihuahua, México, hijo del difunto Flavio Chávez y Herminia (Lozano) Chávez.

Popo era el mayor de diez hijos. Vivió sus primeros 30 años en su México natal, y finalmente emigró a los EE.UU., viviendo en Colorado y en Michigan. El fue residente de Pontiac, Michigan durante más de 40 años, donde conoció y se casó con su esposa Sally el 26 de mayo de 1971, crió a sus hijos y tuvo el honor de ser el padrastro de los hijos de Sally.

Se retiró de General Motors Corporation como trabajador de ensamblaje en 1999 y pasó el resto de sus años de retiro disfrutando de su familia y amigos. Muchas de sus pasiones y pasatiempos incluyeron su amor por los caballos, viendo las películas del oeste, cantando y tocando la guitarra, escuchando música norteña, jugando conquián (cartas), coleccionando rifles y pistolas, irendo a exhibiciones de armas y al campo de tiro con su hijo Martín, y apreciando y trabajando en los carros clásicos.

Era fuerte, valiente, inteligente, creativo, y un hombre que amaba profundamente. Era un hombre de gran humildad, integridad y fe, y amaba a su familia con todo su ser.

El Sr. Chávez deja para atesorar su memoria: Hijos, Martín (Marina Santini) Chávez, Christina (Michael) Molson; hijastros, Fidel (Teresa) Cantú, Pedro (Elena) Cantú, Mónica (Francisco) Cantú, Roberto Cantú, Francisca (Oscar) Almeida, 16 nietos, 21 bisnietos y 4 tataranietos; hermanos, Rita (Amador) Rodríguez, Herlinda (Rodolfo) Márquez, Valente (Cruzita) Chávez, Efigenia (Ofelio) Gutiérrez, María de Jesus (Concepcion) Gutiérrez, and

Francisca (Gustavo) Loya; 23 sobrinos y sobrinas, 46 sobrinos y sobrinas nietos y 12 sobrinos y sobrinas bisnietas, junto con muchos miembros de la familia extendida y queridos amigos.

El Sr. Chávez le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Flavio y Herminia (Lozano) Chávez, su esposa, Sally Sara Chávez, sus nietos Jermaine y Dale Mance, su hermano José Chávez y sus hermanas María Chávez y Gerónima Chávez.
