Eugene "Butch" Cooper, born in Detroit on February 13, 1936, passed away in Warren, at age 87, on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Eugene was the son of the late Alonzo and Rose (Selke) Cooper. He was predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Maxine (LaChapelle), his sister Marion Ducat, and brother Ralph Cooper, and stepdaughter Linda Corsi.
Eugene worked on nearby farms in his early teens. He attended Roseville Schools but quit in high school to help support his widowed mother and siblings. Eugene received his GED during his enlistment in the Marines from 1954-1957. He was employed at J & L Steel as a senior melter and retired after 39 years. He was a parishioner at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Catholic Church in Roseville.
Eugene was a very generous person and always willing to lend a helping hand. He had a cadre of jokes he would share often with family and friends. Eugene thoroughly enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens. His beautiful yard was the envy of the neighborhood. When he could no longer work in the yard in his later years, his favorite pastime became completing jigsaw puzzles.
Surviving are his brother Marvin Cooper, sister-in-law Dianne Cooper, brother-in-law Don Ducat, stepdaughter Pamela Hercula (Ronald) step grandsons Jamie and Brian (Karen) Wilmoth, and great step granddaughters Isis and Phoenix Wilmoth, as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends.
In lieu of gifts and flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
A visitation for Butch will be held Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot Ave., Roseville, Michigan 48066. A funeral service will occur Monday, January 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 27830 Gratiot Ave., Roseville, Michigan 48066. A burial will occur Monday, January 22, 2024 at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Road, Clinton Township, Michigan 48038.
